Description: To further address this, we examined the spatial expression of Xtcat-2 mRNA. Initially, Xtcat-2 mRNA was expressed at the vegetal pole after fertilization. The cytoplasmic islands expressing Xtcat-2 mRNA were localized at the vegetal cortical region where Xcat-2 mRNA and germ plasm were also localized (Fig. 5A,H).
