Description: In examining the relative distribution of mRNAs between the total and ER-associated RNA pools, mRNAs were categorized into three classes: mRNAs present in the ER-associated pool but below the limit of detection in total RNA (ER-membrane-enriched); mRNAs present in total RNA but absent in ER-associated RNA (cytosol-enriched); and mRNAs present in both pools, but enriched fourfold or greater in ER-associated RNA (ER membrane and cytosol; Fig. 5B; Table 2). In Table 2, 10 representative mRNAs from each class are listed.
